Shimon Peres To Dr. Mohamed Morsi,
Shimon Peres
To Dr. Mohamed Morsi,
Sir,
I would like to congratulate you and the Egyptian people on the occasion of your victory in the elections for the presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt. As someone who took part in the process that led to the peace agreement that was signed between my country and yours, I know that both Egypt and Israel attribute supreme importance to regional peace and stability, which serve the interests of all peoples in the region.
All of us in Israel greatly respect Egypt and the Egyptian people, who have served as pioneers and have outlined the way of peace and reconciliation in the region, and we know that the work is not yet finished.
We in Israel congratulate you on the holding of democratic elections and wish Egypt, under your leadership, the courage to face the complex challenges that confront the Egyptian nation.
We hope for continued cooperation with you based on the peace agreements that were signed between us over three decades ago and which obligate us to maintain and cultivate them on behalf of the welfare of both peoples.
Peace has saved the lives of countless young people in Egypt and in Israel.
The obligation toward the younger generation remains forever valid.
As opposed to war, peace is a victory for both sides.
Sincerely,
Shimon Peres.
